“Taiwan Bioinformatics Institute (TBI)” is a virtual institute combining efforts from bioinformatics centers of National Health Research Institutes, National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University and National Cheng Kung University.
Evolved from GMBD Bioinformatics Core, “Taiwan Bioinformatics Institute Core Facility” (abbreviated as TBI-Core Facility) aims at providing state-of-the-art bioinformatics services to biotechnology developments in Taiwan and becoming a leading bioinformatics research group in Asia. The focus areas and participating units in TBI-Core Facility are as follows
Unit 1: Coordination center and statistical genetics
Unit 2: Computational proteomics
Unit 3: Comparative genomics and Protein interactomes
Unit 4: Structural bioinformatics
Unit 5: Applied medical genomics.
TBI - Core Facility provides free on-line services including 32 in-house developed analytical tools and three mirror sites; all of them are published in peer-reviewed leading journals; in particular, CELLO and GEMDOCK have been cited more than 400 times.
Since May 2011, TBI-Core Facility provides customized data analysis services, which is a more comprehensive service depending on the research needs. We will focus on several stages/aspects of genomics and biotechnology research projects, including study design, data analysis, follow-up studies, annotation, mining databases, protein structure analysis, protein-compound interaction analysis and drug design. We have established standard workflows for analyzing data from several high throughput technology platforms, including various array-based technologies and next generation sequencing technologies; these are useful in pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics, viral-host interaction, miRNA analysis, system biology, comparative genomics, etc. In addition to these high-dimensional data, we are particularly strong in bioinformatics support for structural biology and drug design. As bioinformatics is a fast changing area, we would also take the challenge in the timely introduction and implementation of new developments in NGS applications and related data analysis methods; these together with our training courses are vital in facilitating the competiveness of genomics research as well as biotechnology developments in Taiwan.
